Miners Memorial Park

2008-Present

Opened to the public in 2008, the main feature of the Miner’s Memorial and Immigrant Park in Pittsburg, Kansas is a large statue in bronze of a coal miner.

Near the imposing statue are nine monuments made of highly polished black granite. Each of the monuments contain the names of coal miners from Eastern and Southern Europe who labored in the deep shafts and strip mines.

Memories

The bronze statue that will be at the Miners Memorial Park in Pittsburg was modeled off of a picture of my mother’s grandfather as he was returning home to Arma after a day working in the coal mines.
